The term RAL colors according to Wikipedia : RAL colors are standardized colors that RAL gGmbH (a subsidiary of the RAL Institute) markets under the name RAL Classic. The name is derived from the Reichs-Ausschuss für Lieferbedingungen, which was founded on April 23, 1925 in Berlin and served the rationalization of the German economy. Each color of the color catalog is assigned a four-digit color number. This standardization goes back to a table of 40 colors created in 1927 by the Reichsausschuß für Lieferbedingungen (RAL). The purpose of the standardization is that the customer and supplier only have to exchange a RAL number and not a color sample on defined material. In the meantime RAL Classic contains 213 color shades based on water-soluble lacquers.
